The treatment
How Sclerotherapy works
A prescribed sclerosing solution is injected directly into each target vessel using a very fine needle. The solution irritates the vessel wall, causing it to collapse and the walls to stick together. The body then gradually reabsorbs the closed vessel over four to eight weeks, and the vein fades from view. Because each vessel is treated individually, sessions are tailored to the specific pattern and distribution present. Dr Shahe assesses the full picture at consultation before recommending the appropriate course.

Is this treatment right for you?
Suitable for
- Adults with spider veins, thread veins or reticular veins on the legs. Best results are achieved in those who can wear compression stockings post-treatment and are at a stable weight.
Not suitable for
- Not appropriate during pregnancy, or where there is a history of deep vein thrombosis, known allergy to sclerosing agents, active infection or skin disease in the treatment area, or significant immobility. A full medical history and vascular assessment at consultation determines suitability.

After your appointment
Aftercare
Compression stockings should be worn as advised after treatment. Walking immediately after each session is encouraged to support circulation. Avoid hot baths, saunas and prolonged sun exposure to the treated area for the period recommended by Dr Shahe.
Two to four visits, spaced out
The clinic is at 65 London Road, Newark-on-Trent, NG24 1RZ, with free parking at the front.
Most people need between two and four sessions, spaced to let each one settle before the next. The gaps are longer than most courses here, so the total commitment runs over months but the number of trips stays low.
With the A1 and A46 both running through Newark, the clinic is easy to reach from Balderton, Farndon and Southwell, from Bingham, East Bridgford and the Vale of Belvoir, and from West Bridgford, Melton Mowbray and Sleaford.
You will be walking afterwards and may be in compression for a period, so wear something you can get over a dressing and drive in comfortably.
Background on the concern: vein removal covers how leg veins differ from facial vessels and why they are treated differently.
If the drive is the question, we have written it up for Grantham and for Lincoln.
