The treatment
How Cryotherapy for Age Spots works
Medical-grade cryotherapy delivers a controlled burst of extreme cold directly onto the age spot. The targeted freeze destroys the concentrated melanin-producing cells responsible for the visible discolouration. The treated tissue then naturally darkens, crusts and sheds over the following one to two weeks as the skin repairs itself. At The London Road Clinic, a clinician assesses each spot before treatment to confirm it is a suitable benign pigmented lesion. Any spot that is irregular, changing or diagnostically uncertain is redirected for medical review rather than routine cosmetic treatment.

Is this treatment right for you?
Suitable for
- Adults with discrete age spots or solar lentigines on the face, hands or body that a clinician has confirmed are suitable benign pigmented lesions appropriate for cryotherapy.
Not suitable for
- Spots that are irregular in shape, changing in appearance or diagnostically uncertain are not appropriate for routine cosmetic cryotherapy and should be assessed medically before any treatment. Melasma and other diffuse, hormonally-driven pigmentation patterns are not suitable for this approach.

After your appointment
Aftercare
Keep the treated area clean and protected from direct sun exposure, apply SPF 50+ daily to the healing skin and avoid picking the treated area as it darkens and sheds. Follow all aftercare guidance from your clinician until healing is complete.
From the clinic shop
What we would send you home with
The treated spot darkens, crusts and sheds over a week or two, and your aftercare asks for SPF 50+ on the healing skin, which is higher than anything in this range. So nothing here is offered as your sunscreen. These are for the tone around the spot, and for once it has healed.

One visit, usually
The clinic is at 65 London Road, Newark-on-Trent, NG24 1RZ, with free parking at the front.
Suitable spots are often dealt with in a single session, though some need a second. That makes the travel maths simple: one trip, a short appointment, and no course to commit to.
Patients come to us from Balderton, Farndon, Collingham, Southwell, Bingham and Ollerton, and from Lincoln, Grantham and Sleaford across the border.
The treated spot darkens before it lifts, which takes days rather than hours and looks worse before it looks better. Worth knowing if you have something in the diary.
