The science
How each treatment works
NeoGen Nitrogen Plasma
Radiofrequency passes through medical-grade nitrogen and ionises it into plasma. The handpiece releases that plasma as short thermal pulses, and your skin absorbs the energy at the surface. A laser or IPL needs a colour to aim at, a vessel or a patch of pigment. Plasma needs nothing. The energy lands evenly across everything the handpiece passes over, so the whole treated area is covered with no untreated skin left between microcolumns. Nothing is vaporised either. Your outer layer dries out and stays where it is, working as a dressing while new skin builds underneath, and separates on its own over the following days. No needle enters the skin at any point, which is what lets your clinician work up to the lash line. Patients often confuse this with our Plaxel+ plasma pen. That device draws a fine electrical arc to mark individual points and lift a small area of skin, and it is a shorter, cheaper, more local treatment.

Profhilo uses high-concentration hyaluronic acid placed in specific bio-remodelling points on the face, neck or hands. Rather than sculpting or adding bulk, the aim is to spread hydration, improve elasticity and rebuild overall skin quality over time. It works especially well for skin that feels crepey, dull or less resilient rather than primarily volume-depleted.

Which is right for you?
Patients shortlist these together and they do opposite jobs
Profhilo works underneath the skin and resurfaces nothing. NeoGen treats the surface itself. Both get described as improving skin quality, which is where the confusion starts.
Most people arrive wanting some version of better skin, and both treatments get recommended for that, so they land on the same shortlist. Profhilo is hyaluronic acid injected at set points. It spreads, holds water, and prompts your skin to build its own collagen and elastin over the following weeks. Skin that felt thin and dry feels firmer, and the surface is never touched. NeoGen goes the other way and treats that surface with heat, so it dries, flakes and renews. Only one of them changes texture directly. Dull, dehydrated skin points to Profhilo, and it costs less. Lines you can see in the mirror, or the texture of the skin itself, point to NeoGen, and no amount of Profhilo will get you there.
The eye area separates them
Profhilo is not placed in the immediate periorbital area. NeoGen reaches the lash line, closer than any injectable or needling treatment we offer.
After tear trough hollowing, crow's feet and crepey eyelid skin are the next thing patients raise about their eyes, and the options thin out fast. Profhilo lifts skin quality across the face and helps the area around the eye without treating the eyelid skin itself. NeoGen does treat it: nothing enters the skin, no colour target is needed, and your clinician can work right up to the margin. The device's only randomised trial covers exactly this, treating one side of eighteen faces over three sessions while the other side went untreated, with blinded evaluators scoring the treated side better for lines and pigmentation. Energist helped fund it. Eighteen people is a small study and we would rather you knew that going in.
One is a fortnight, the other is a season
Profhilo is two appointments four weeks apart with little visible recovery. NeoGen is three or more appointments spread across months, each followed by several visible days.
This usually decides it, and it deserves saying before the clinical argument rather than after. Profhilo costs £250 a session or £500 for the usual course of two, and most people carry on with their week straight afterwards. NeoGen asks more of you in every direction: more appointments, more money, and several days each time when your skin is red, dry and flaking. Choose it for what it does to the surface. Choosing it because it sounds like a stronger skin booster will leave you disappointed and out of pocket. Plenty of plans use both, with Profhilo carrying skin quality and NeoGen doing the resurfacing, spaced out with proper healing time rather than stacked together.
