How Hydra-Light works

Hydra-Light combines a Hydra-Facial and Lumecca IPL in a single 75-minute appointment. The facial side cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates. The Lumecca side delivers high-energy light that converts to heat in the skin, breaking down excess brown pigment and sealing superficial vessels. The two are worked together rather than run one after the other, with your practitioner moving between them so the light lands at the point where your skin is best prepared for it. How that is balanced on the day is a clinical judgement, based on your skin and the concern being treated.

Is this treatment right for you?

Suitable for

Adults with a mix of concerns across pigmentation, redness, sun damage, congestion and dull tone, who would rather deal with them in one appointment. Suitability for the IPL stage is confirmed at consultation with a patch test.

Not suitable for

The Lumecca depends on your skin type, recent sun exposure and medication history. Recent tanning, sunbed use or certain medications will rule it out for now. If Lumecca is not appropriate, a Hydra-Facial on its own can still be booked.

Aftercare

Avoid sun exposure, keep skincare gentle and use SPF daily. Pigmentation coming up darker before it sheds is the treatment working, not a reaction. Do not pick at it.

What the appointment involves

A Hydra-Facial and a Lumecca IPL treatment, combined across 75 minutes.

The facial side does the cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration. The Lumecca side does the corrective work on pigment and vessels, on the same device used for a standalone Lumecca IPL session.

They are worked together rather than run in sequence. A Hydra-Facial has several stages, and your practitioner decides where the Lumecca sits among them, based on your skin and what is being treated. That judgement is part of what you are booking.

Hydra-Light or Hydra-Tight

Two combined appointments, two different jobs. Hydra-Light is for tone: pigmentation, redness, sun damage, dullness. Hydra-Tight is for firmness, pairing the same facial with Forma radiofrequency. If your concern is what your skin looks like, this is the one. If it is how it holds, that is the other.

One thing to plan around

Pigmentation gets darker before it goes. Sun spots lift to the surface over about a week and then shed. It is a normal part of the process and it is visible, so book with a month’s clearance before anything you are dressing up for.

Regulatory position

Licensed premises

These premises hold a Massage and Special Treatment licence covering laser and intense pulsed light, issued under Part IV of the Nottinghamshire County Council Act 1985 and granted after an inspection. Most of England operates no such scheme, so a clinic elsewhere can run a Class 4 laser without any licence at all.

Holding it requires an external Laser Protection Adviser, a named Laser Protection Supervisor, written Local Rules ratified independently, wavelength-rated eyewear worn in the treatment room, a bound record of every use, and every practitioner licensed individually as a named Authorised User. It renews annually. The licence and its conditions are available to view at the clinic.

Frequently asked about Hydra-Light

What is the difference between Hydra-Light and a Hydra-Facial?

A Hydra-Facial cleans, exfoliates and hydrates the skin. It does not treat pigmentation or redness. Hydra-Light combines that facial with Lumecca IPL, which is the stage that acts on excess pigment and superficial vessels. If your concern is congestion and dullness alone, the facial on its own is the right booking and it costs less.

Is the light stage IPL or laser?

It is IPL. Lumecca is InMode's intense pulsed light system, which uses broadband light through a filter rather than a single laser wavelength. Every device in the Lumecca range is IPL. Your clinician selects the 515nm or 580nm filter depending on your skin type, which is agreed at consultation.

Why does my pigmentation look worse afterwards?

Because that is how IPL clears it. The light breaks down excess pigment and it rises to the surface, so sun spots darken and take on a coffee-ground look for about a week before they shed. It is visible while it happens. Book with that in mind rather than the week of an event.

Can I have this before a wedding or a holiday?

Not in the week before. Allow at least a month so the pigmentation stage has fully shed and any redness has settled. Book earlier and the result works in your favour. A Hydra-Facial on its own is the treatment for the few days beforehand.

How long does the appointment take?

75 minutes, covering both the facial and the Lumecca. Your practitioner moves between the two rather than finishing one before starting the other, so the time is not split evenly or predictably. Allow a little longer for your first visit, as the consultation and patch test happen before anything is booked.

Do I need a patch test?

Yes, for the Lumecca. A patch test is done at consultation, ahead of the treatment appointment, so your clinician can confirm the right filter and energy setting for your skin. This is standard practice for any IPL treatment and it is not skipped.

How many sessions will I need?

Many people book Hydra-Light as a one-off. Where pigmentation or rosacea is the main concern rather than one of several, a course of Lumecca IPL on its own usually does more for the money than repeating the combined appointment. Your clinician will say which applies to you.

Is it suitable for darker skin tones?

It depends on your skin type and is assessed individually. Lumecca is used with a 580nm filter for darker skin tones and a 515nm filter for lighter ones. Suitability, filter and energy setting are all confirmed at consultation and patch test before treatment goes ahead.
