The science

How each treatment works

Profhilo Skin Booster

Profhilo uses high-concentration hyaluronic acid placed in specific bio-remodelling points on the face, neck or hands. Rather than sculpting or adding bulk, the aim is to spread hydration, improve elasticity and rebuild overall skin quality over time. It works especially well for skin that feels crepey, dull or less resilient rather than primarily volume-depleted.

Profhilo Structura

Profhilo Structura uses a thermally stabilised formulation of 90mg of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid per 2ml, a notably higher concentration than standard Profhilo. Rather than spreading through the dermis to improve surface skin quality, it is placed via cannula into the superficial fat layer beneath the skin: the adipose tissue responsible for facial contour and structural support. Once in place, it activates fat cells to behave more youthfully, stimulates collagen and elastin production and reorganises the extracellular matrix, restoring firmness and definition from within. The result is a natural structural lift rather than an added or sculpted volume. At The London Road Clinic, Profhilo Structura is particularly relevant for patients who have experienced significant facial fat pad deflation through ageing or rapid weight loss. For those who have lost facial volume as a result of GLP-1 receptor agonist medication, Structura directly addresses the adipose tissue affected, supporting structural restoration without artificial bulk.

Clinical perspective

Which is right for you?

01

Same manufacturer, different depth, different goal

Standard Profhilo works in the dermis to improve skin quality. Profhilo Structura works in the fat layer beneath to restore structural firmness. They treat different tissues and should not be used interchangeably.

Standard Profhilo places high-concentration HA at bio-remodelling points across the face, neck or hands and is designed to spread through the dermis, improving hydration, elasticity and skin resilience. It does not change the shape of the face or restore structural volume. The result is skin that looks and feels more hydrated, more resilient and healthier. Profhilo Structura goes deeper. It uses a higher HA concentration (90mg vs 64mg per 2ml) and is delivered by cannula into the superficial fat layer, the adipose tissue that maintains facial contour and structural support. Rather than improving surface skin quality, it activates fat cells to regenerate and reorganise, restoring the structural firmness and definition that volume loss removes.

02

Skin quality or structural sagging: the distinction matters

Crepey, dull or less firm skin points toward standard Profhilo. Visible sagging, cheek deflation, midface descent or jowling points toward Profhilo Structura.

The wrong choice for the right patient produces limited or no result. Standard Profhilo cannot address structural sagging because it does not reach the fat layer responsible for facial contour. Profhilo Structura is not appropriate where the concern is surface skin quality rather than structural deflation. Your clinician will identify which tissue layer is the source of the concern before recommending either treatment.

03

A note on post-weight-loss changes

Profhilo Structura is particularly well matched to patients who have experienced significant facial fat loss following rapid weight loss, including as a result of GLP-1 receptor agonist medication.

When weight loss depletes the facial fat layer, the face can look structurally deflated and aged in ways that skin-quality treatments cannot address. Structura targets the adipose tissue directly affected, making it a clinically relevant option for this presentation. Your clinician will advise at consultation whether Structura alone or in combination with dermal filler or other treatments is the appropriate approach for your degree of structural change.

Finding the right fit

Who each treatment suits

Profhilo Skin Booster

  • Adults whose primary concern is skin quality: crepey texture, dullness or reduced elasticity rather than volume loss or structural sagging
  • Those wanting improvement across the face, neck or hands without changing facial shape or structure
  • Those in their thirties and forties noticing early skin quality changes who want a proactive maintenance approach

Profhilo Structura

  • Adults with visible volume loss, midface sagging, cheek deflation, jowling or a structural hollowing rather than a skin-quality concern
  • Those who have experienced significant facial fat pad depletion following rapid weight loss, including as a result of GLP-1 receptor agonist medication
  • Those who have tried skin-quality treatments without addressing the structural loss underlying the appearance they want to change

Common questions

Frequently asked

Are Profhilo and Profhilo Structura the same product?
No. They are made by the same manufacturer and both use hyaluronic acid, but they have different formulations, different HA concentrations, different injection depths and different clinical purposes. Profhilo improves skin quality in the dermis. Profhilo Structura restores structural firmness in the fat layer beneath the skin.
Which is better for facial ageing?
That depends on which aspect of ageing you are addressing. Profhilo is better for skin quality changes: crepiness, dullness and loss of elasticity. Profhilo Structura is better for structural changes: sagging, volume loss and loss of facial definition. Many patients benefit from both at different points in a treatment programme.
Can Profhilo Structura replace dermal filler?
They are not interchangeable. Dermal filler adds volume to a specific defined area and produces an immediate visible change. Profhilo Structura regenerates the fat layer to produce a natural structural lift without a sculpted result. For significant volume deficit in a specific zone, filler remains the more targeted option. Your clinician will advise which is appropriate for your presentation.
Is Profhilo Structura suitable after significant weight loss?
Yes, it is particularly well suited to this. Rapid weight loss, including that caused by GLP-1 receptor agonist medication, depletes the facial fat layer and can cause structural hollowing and sagging that standard skin-quality treatments do not address. Profhilo Structura targets the adipose tissue directly affected, making it a clinically well-matched option. A consultation will confirm whether Structura alone or alongside other treatments is the right approach.
Can both treatments be done at the same time?
They can be combined as part of a planned treatment programme, addressing skin quality and structural support together. Your clinician will recommend the appropriate sequence and timing based on your specific concern.
How do the prices compare?
Profhilo starts from £170 per session. Profhilo Structura starts from £350 per session, reflecting the higher HA concentration and the additional technique involved. Both are typically delivered as a two-session course.
Are both treatments suitable during pregnancy?
No. Neither Profhilo nor Profhilo Structura is appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Suitability is always reviewed at consultation before any injectable treatment.
